Warrior Victory: Dr. Keto Ronald Pugh

How to Reverse the Way We Get Old, Fat, Ugly, Blind, and Die Early by Dr. Keto Ronald Pugh

“My journey began as “Scrawny Ronny”. At 15, I was 5 foot 11 inches, weighed just 125 lbs. and was a bean pole. I had to spread out my toes in the shower to not go down the drain;-) I was one of those flesh and bones people. If I turned sideways you couldn’t see me.

When I graduated high school I was up to 155 lbs. and by college graduation I was 185 lbs. The weight continued coming. When I finished graduate school I was now a 220 lb. doctor!

When I reached 274 lbs. in 1978 I began trying to lose weight. For 30 some years I only gained 2-3 lbs. a year but wasn’t losing any. By 2017 I was topping the scales at 349 and I was SURE that there was NO HEALTHY WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT!! Here I was a doctor, eating as healthy as I could, and using nutritional supplements and still couldn’t do it. (Can anyone relate??) Here’s me before Keto:

Enter my friend Blake Graham and Wakaya’s Ketogenic Lifestyle. Wakaya showed me that ketosis IS A HEALTHY WAY to burn fat. With the Burn capsule and KetoFUEL meal replacement shake combined with the low carb/sugar ketogenic diet, nutritional supplements, and drinking water I found a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE that WORKS to lose weight and increase my energy and quality of life. To date, I’ve lost (and kept off) a previously impossible 97 POUNDS!!! My journey continues and I’m not stopping on my fat loss journey!

I weighed in on my first day and tracked my fat loss and daily food intake. I divided my food into 5 categories and offer these suggestions to everyone following this lifestyle:

1) Veggies – I especially like avocados and green leafy veggies (remember to avoid the veggies the kids like such as potatoes, corn, peas, and other starchy veggies)

2) Eggs – I cook these anyway I want to but avoid frying them so as to not damage that amazing hormone and brain supporting cholesterol.

3) Meat – Use any meat you like but remember to not overcook or burn it to avoid eating the heterocyclic amines that can lead to many unwanted conditions and diseases.

4) Butter – YUMMY!! It’s best if you can use grass fed and hormone free options.

5) Nuts & Seeds – I especially like high fat macadamia nuts and sunflower and pumpkin seeds, as well as sprouts. Stay away from higher carb pistachios and peanuts or use only in moderation.

Here I am now:

I like to use this short story to help my patients understand how the ketogenic diet works and why it is healthy:

Consider being in an enclosed area with a gas burning vehicle engine running. Your body needs oxygen but with only carbon monoxide present, your body “binds” the carbon monoxide to your red blood cells. This no longer allows the red blood cell to carry oxygen to the body’s cells. Without oxygen, life is no longer possible. You soon fall asleep from lack of oxygen and don’t wake up. Your body needs oxygen but chooses the carbon monoxide because that is what is available to it. Obviously a bad choice.

Many cars can now use gas or or electricity to power the motor. Electricity runs the car better and much cleaner for our world. However, most cars are still using gas and polluting our environment. This is another bad choice.

Most people seem not to understand or know that our bodies can use sugar OR fat to fuel our cells. The ketogenic diet allows our bodies to burn fat (including our stored fat!). Our bodies run more cleanly and efficiently on fat than on sugar. Our body will keep using the inefficient “dirty” fuel of sugar as long as that is what we give it. The more science evaluates sugar’s many negative effects on the body, the more ill effects are discovered!

I recommend the Ketogenic Diet as a healthy lifestyle and if you lose fat/weight like I did — that is just a fantastic bonus!!”
